Types and Styles
Windows offer greater design flexibility than almost any other building components. Hess Windows in particular offer a wide variety of shapes colors and functions. However the basic types are at the center of even the most elaborate design and each one is specifically suited to a specific purpose. Replacement windows offer ease of operation, increased interior comfort levels and thermal efficiency.

Fixed Windows
The simplest type of window. Primarily chosen to allow a view, daylighting and a barrier to the elements. Sometimes paired with operable windows for ventilation they offer the most design flexibility when an immovable frame with the best thermal performances is required.

Hung Windows
Single hung, double hung windows are vertically operated with a counter balance system to offset the weight of the operable sash. Use hung windows when you need a fresh air opening with no projection inward or outward beyond the window plane. When raised the single or double hung sash opening accounts for less than 50% of the total window area. Tilt in sashes allow for interior cleaning of the exterior surfaces by maintenance personnel.

Bays, Bows, Garden and Awning Windows
Projected windows are defined as windows with one or more hinged or pivoted vents in a fixed frame. When operated they may project in or out from the plane of the window. Typically paired with fixed lites of glass and may be paired with project in or out windows in the same frame. With a project out at the bottom the window becomes an awning window. With a project in at the top the ventilator is called a hopper. Design considerations should include safety issues (will someone walk or run into an awning window at street level) ease of operation, and the ability to offer ventilation and protection even during a light rain. Projected windows offer 100% ventilation and will accept a variety of hardware.

Casement Windows
Casement windows also project in or out from the plane or the wall. These windows are always side hinged or pivoted. They  offer the best choice for meeting egress requirements with their 100% opening ability. Paired with lights they can take on the appearance of a large divided fixed frame or a sliding window. They can also be paired with projected window to offer minimized ventilation and egress without disturbing a fixed over projected (or projected over fixed) design profile.

Sliding Windows
Like hung windows sliding windows do not project in or out of the window plane when opened because they include one or more horizontal operating sashes in a master frame. Several configurations are available with fixed lights (f) and operable (o) sashes. The operable sashes in most sliding windows are also designed for easy removal to help facilitate cleaning and maintenance.

LOW E &
ARGON GAS

By Choosing Low E and argon gas (Comfort TI ) you will increase the efficiency of your windows year-round.  In the winter, Comfort TI insulating glass units reflect heat back into the room, blocking as much as 81% of the heat that can escape through conventional glass.  In the summer, insulating glass units with Comfort TI  stop as much as 75% of re-radiated solar heat from entering your home, while the special coating reduces direct summer sun rays.  Comfort TI also helps block the fabric-fading ultraviolet rays, protecting your valuable carpets, upholstery and drapes.

Although the types discussed in this section are the most frequently used many other window types and configurations are available for special applications.
